Gate of the Trance est un projet solo formé par André Connan en 2001.

André Connan a commencé à faire de la musique dans les années 70, jouant de la guitare et de la basse.
Entre 1981/1984, André était impliqué dans le mouvement Punk/New Wave à Toulouse,
jouant dans un groupe local de Psycho-Punk-Rock:
Les Miserables (Voir un article de Dougherty sur le Rock toulousain des 80 's). En 1985, il créa avec le chanteur
du groupe Hugues M.... un duo Rock, Mass & Fergusson (un nom qui en dit long sur la teneur energetique de leur musique),
accompagné cette fois ci d'une boite à rythme, inventant une musique qui fut plus tard mise à l'honneur par
des groupes comme Beastie Boys. Cette boite à rythme Rolland fut le premier pas vers la musique éléctronique.
André avait déja construit en 1981 un synthé analogique, genre Moog, à partir d'un circuit integré celebre à l'epoque,
mais ne s'en servait pas encore pour composer.En 1982, André avait ouvert à Toulouse un restaurant/pub Rock
qui était le rendez-vous de la scene alternative Toulousaine, le Hulla Hoop, qui eut à l'epoque les honneurs du
journal alternatif nationnal Actuel, car ce fut un des premiers endroits branchés ou se retrouvaient tous les musiciens
locaux des mouvements Punk & New Wave, ainsi que ceux qui étaient de passage à Toulouse.

En 1987, Mass & Fergusson se separat, car Hugues partait travailler à Paris, et André allat s'installer pour un an en Bretagne,
pour y apprendre le metier de charpentier de marine.

En 1989, revenu à Toulouse, André commença à s'interesser serieusement à la musique electronique,
ayant recupere un synthé analogique, le tres recherche aujourd'hui Pro-One de Sequential Circuits,
petit frere du Prophet, et un korg poly 6. Ce fut une revelation, et André ne tarda pas à delaisser la guitare dans un coin,
preferant preferant s'amuser avec son nouveau joujou et sa boite à rythmes, qu'il avait trafiquée en l'ouvrant
pour faire quelques reglages personnels! Aprés quelques séjours à Valencia (Espagne), qui était à l'époque
la capitale de la bacalao de la fiesta et des raves, le tournant était pris, la Trance faisait son effet dans le coeur d'André,
qui ne s'en remit jamais depuis! Ce furent les premieres composition avec un Amiga 500 pour les raves entre amis,
avec les amis des amis et les amis des amis des amis.

Aujourd'hui installé en Bretagne, précisement à Plougasnou, André compose dans son propre home studio,
et entend bien faire partager sa musique et ses reves au monde entier......

J'ai rencontré dernierement un DJ qui a adopté ma musique, et m'a demandé de faire un live act avec lui,
pouquoi pas, il est temps de sortir de ma caverne, et d'aller montrer ma tronche autour du monde...

Biography:

Gate of the Trance is a solo Trance music project formed by Andre Connan en 2001.

Andre Connan began to play music in the 70's, playing as an amateur guitar and bass..During the years1981/1984,
Andre was involved in the Punk/New Wave movment in Toulouse, (S.West of France),
Playing guitar in an enrgetic local Psycho-Punk-Rock band :
Les Miserables (read a report about the Tousousian rock of the 80's, in French).
In1985, he created with the singer of the band, Hugues M.., a rock duo, Mass & Fergusson (a name that tells a lot on
the energetic intentions of their music), accompaned this time by a rythm box, inventing a music that was later
brought on the tops's by bands such as Beastie Boy. this Rolland rythm box was the first step into the electronic music.
Andre had already built in 1981 an analog synth, a king of Moog,with a famous integrated circuit sold by Realistic at this time,
but didn't not use it for his compositions. En 1982, André had opened a Rock restaurant/pub in Toulouse,
the Hulla Hoop wich was the rendez-vous for the alternative scene, he had at this time the honnors of the national
alternative newspaper Actuel, because it was one of the first connected place frequented by all the locals musicians of the
Punk & New Wave Movement, as all those passing through the region of Toulouse.

In 1987, Mass & Fergusson had to separate because Hugues started to work in Paris,
and Andre went in Britanny for one year,to learn shipwrighting

In 1989, back in Toulouse, Andre began to seriously take interest to make electronic music, having bought an analog synth,
the most researched today Pro-One from Sequential Circuits, little brother of the Prophet, and a Korg Poly 6.
It was a revelation! So much noise in such a little thing! Andre was not long to abandon his guitar in a corner,
prefering play with his new toy and his rythms box, that he had traffiked, opening it to make some personnal adjustments!
After several travels in Valencia (Spain), wich was at this time the capital of the techno and endless rave parties,
the turning point was reached, the Trance music had made irreversible ravages in the heart of Andre, who never recovered since!
Then came the first compositions, with an Amiga 500 computer, for the raves parties between friends,
with the friends of his friends, and the friends of the friends of his friends....

Today, living in Brittanny with his little familly, exactly in the city of Plougasnou,
Andre continue to compose Trance music in his own home studio, intending to share dreams and music with the whole world....

I was asked some weeks ago to perform live act with my music, so, here's the new goal today:
to get out from my cave and show my face around the world!
